In ‘The Civil Dead’—a beautiful feature debut by childhood friends Clay Tatum and Whitmer Thomas—a misanthropic photographer and humanlike ghost find themselves in increasingly baffling situations.

It’s nighttime out on the streets of the big city. Justin is seen centered in the middle of the still, with a bandage on his right hand, whilst smoking a cigarette.
